Men’s Ministry

Men’s Bible Study

Every Tuesday night we meet in the Fellowship Center to worship the Lord through fellowship, the teaching of His Word and through prayer. This is a time specifically for men who want to grow closer to the Lord and be equipped in the many different areas of a man's life in today's world. Teaching them to be men after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14); men who reflect God in their heart, mind, soul and in everything they do.

The Bible study begins at 7:00pm and meets in the Fellowship Center.

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:1-2

Men’s Prayer

Men's Prayer meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm for a time of fellowship and prayer to lift up the needs of our church, our families and each other. Please join us as we engage in the battle against the powers and principalities of this world.

Women’s Ministry

As with many Christian women’s ministries around the world, the Women’s Ministry of Calvary Spokane is dedicated to the solid teaching of God’s Word, to the discipling of the women in our church and to the honor and necessity of holding each other and the needs of our church in prayer.

Our ministry is open to all women. We meet every Tuesday at 10:30am and 7:00pm in the Youth Center for a time of worship, teaching from God’s Word and gathering in small groups for prayer. Childcare is provided in the Children’s Center for ages 0-6 during the morning meeting only, for the months of September through June.

Women's Ministry serves and loves people actively in the following ways:

Love in Action – providing meals to families or individuals in need of short-term assistance, such as birth of a baby, illness, surgery, etc.

Groceries for Families in Need – providing food to meet emergency and temporary needs of families or individuals.

Women’s Prayer – meeting every Friday at 10:15am in the Parent's Room in the Children's Center for a time to pray for prayer requests of the members of our congregation.

In addition, Women’s Ministry holds quarterly events specifically directed toward reaching out to women of all ages with the Gospel of Christ.

Youth Ministry

Focusing On Christ’s Abiding Love

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

  • Our Role is to point students to Christ with our words and with our actions. As leaders, we believe God holds our lives in greater accountability (Matthew 18:6), and that the students should only follow our example when we follow the example of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).
  • Our Desire is that they may observe the Word of God and come to a saving knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ, and become sanctified according to the truth (John 17:17).
  • Our Objective is that every student who comes will not leave without hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that faith comes from hearing the Message, and the Message is heard through the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
  • Our Conviction as youth leaders is the same as that of Paul in Acts 26:18 when Jesus said to him: “I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”
  • Our Humility should always place the needs of the students above our own (Philippians 2:3).
  • Our Calling from God as a church is to Love God, Love His Word, and Love One Another.

Additional Studies

Heart for God

“They gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will.”     2 Corinthians 8:5

This class meets for 8 weeks each fall and spring in the Fellowship Center at 7pm on Monday nights. This class is designed for those who are new to the Christian faith and also for those just desiring to be reminded or equipped to share Christ with the world around us.

In the class we discover and learn about the foundational truths of Christianity. With so many different teachings and beliefs around today, it is important for every Christian to have a firm foundation in what we believe. Contact the church office at (509) 467-2860 or email usto find out the dates of the current Heart for God session.

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”       Ephesians 1:17

Wednesday Morning bible study

Join us on Wednesday mornings with Foy Cornett in the Fellowship Center. The first Wednesday of each month Communion is observed. You are invited to join us at 10:30am for a cup of coffee, worship and some time in the Word.

Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Sunday 9:00am Interpreted Service

Sunday 11:00am Bible Study Class

Thursday 7:00pm Interpreted Service

The Bible study class meets Sunday at 11:00am in the Conference Room, located next to the Fellowship Center. The time begins with a brief opportunity of fellowship together followed by an opening prayer and a few selected songs, sung in sign language, without any musical accompaniment.

During class there is time for questions and input from those who attend. When hearing people attend this class with limited understanding of this language, voicing is provided. When the bulk of the class is made up of those who understand this language, the class continues with limited voice. A PowerPoint presentation is used to project the Word of God on a TV screen along with other pictures and charts as needed to explain Biblical truths.  If you would like further information, please contact us.

The purpose of this ministry is to present the truths of the Bible to those in our fellowship who are deaf or hard of hearing who long to grow in their relationship with the Lord. Our commitment is to be involved in the process of teaching others as we have been taught, while we continue to learn ourselves. Our goal is to model a lifestyle of ministry involvement and encourage others to follow the Lord’s leading in their own specific area of ministry to the Body of Christ.

Home Fellowships

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." -Hebrews 10:24-25

We believe Home Fellowships can fill an important role in bringing people into a deeper fellowship with other believers, a fellowship where burdens, joys and Christian experience can be shared in the context of God's Word. Truly, one of the greatest ways to experience this kind of Christian growth is by becoming involved in such a Bible Study.

We are currently in the process of formalizing our Home Fellowship Ministry.  Are you currently leading a Home Fellowship Bible study?  Are you interested in leading or hosting a Home Fellowship in your home?  Please contact us at the Church Office at (509) 467-2860 or by email.

Marriage

Married's Bible Study Fellowship meets on the first and third Friday's of each month at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Center. Childcare is provided for children through 6th grade.

marriage: the way it's made to be (DVD & Print)

"In the beginning God created . . . marriage." The answer is not in the wisdom of man, but in the eternal truths of God's Word. In Marriage: The Way It's Made to Be, Ken Ortize has set out to provide clear, simple, down-to-earth insights in understanding God's plan and purpose for marriage in today's world.

parenting by grace & truth (print)

Unlike many parenting books that reflect the values and views of contemporary society, placing greater emphasis upon behavioral techniques that manipulated and controlled behavior, Parenting by Grace & Truth, a new book by Ken Ortize, focuses upon biblical truths that invite God's Spirit of Grace as a means of building godly character in both child and parent.  Copies of this book are now available at Calvary Spokane.

Pre-Marital Mentoring

Pre-Marital Mentoring provides engaged couples with a Biblical understanding of the martial relationship and encourages each couple to develop their individual "expression" of what He would say through them, and to provide that "hope" to others.

Media & Communications

Jesus said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone, everywhere." Mark 16:15

The Media and Communications Ministry is a support ministry of Calvary Spokane providing resources through various forms of technology and media to provide greater access to the teaching of God's Word.

Our goal is to glorify God and fulfill the Great Commission using the tool of technology to open avenues whereby the Gospel can be communicated to everyone, everywhere.

We provide access to a live streaming broadcast on the internet during our Sunday and Thursday services.  CD's and DVD's are available immediately after each service, as well as other forms of media including archived sermon media, MP3 sets, podcasts and CD or DVD sets of special events.  All of these can be found at the Media Center, located in between the Worship Center and the Fellowship Center.

Music

Worship through music is the eternal occupation of every believer in Jesus Christ.

It is an emotional response empowered by the Holy Spirit that springs from a heart of love, gratitude, and reverence for God.

"The hour is coming, and now is when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." -John 4:23-24

Worship through music is a vital part of every service at Calvary Spokane. It gives every believer an opportunity to commune with the living God, and to sing praises to our Lord Jesus as the Holy Spirit prepares our hearts to receive His Word. May we all fall more deeply in love with Christ as we continue to discover the riches of worshiping Him.

Outreach

Outreach–Abroad

One of the most notable characteristics of the early Church was its commitment to evangelism. Acts 8:4 ...(they) "preached the word wherever they went." The reason was simple: In all four of the Gospels and Acts, the first believers were instructed by our Lord to..."Go into all the world and preach the Gospel" (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:48, John 20:21, Acts 1:8). Whenever a command or teaching was repeated three or more times, it is clearly a key point of emphasis.

The best explanation for this emphasis is that Christians are called to be reproducers (John 15:8). It is our belief that a Church that fails to emphasize outreach, not only is neglecting its most essential calling, but will develop internal conflicts because their focus is spiritually unhealthy. We are called to be givers, not takers. We are happiest when we give (Acts 20:35); which means we are looking to the needs of others over our own needs (Ephesians 4:29).

Therefore, everything we do has an outreach component. In other words, regardless of what we are doing, we begin by asking the question, "How can this be used to reach people with the Gospel?" We believe that there should never be any program that is designed exclusively for in-reach. Rather, every activity should be designed to reach out to others, both believers and non-believers.

Beyond our "ordinary" ministry activities, we also actively engage in overtly evangelistic programs, both locally and internationally. But in the final analysis, the most effective form of evangelism is friend to friend. Eighty-five percent of those who visit a church do so because a friend or family member invited them. Therefore, we regularly emphasize the responsibility and opportunity to share faith with those who are part of our daily lives.

For additional information, contact the Church Office by phone (509) 467-2860 or email us.

Outreach–Local

Do you feel God calling you to reach out to the Spokane community? Local Outreach Ministry is interested in new volunteers to serve on the team in handing out food, ministering God's Word and loving people.

If interested, please contact the Church Office or email us.

Loving Hearts

The Loving Hearts Ministry desires to reach out with compassion to the elderly and disabled in retirement homes, nursing homes and assisted living centers. Our purpose is to share the love of Jesus while offering hope to people who are infirmed, handicapped or without anyone to visit them. We aim to always demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ.

We have developed resources to train and equip those who have a desire to serve in this ministry. In addition to visiting people in need, the Loving Hearts Ministry meets every four months for a fellowship potluck, a time to share the blessings of all that God is doing in this ministry.

Prayer

Prayer is the act of entering the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted and supplication is made. Prayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." James 4:8

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

Father, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.

Set Free

Set Free is a Bible-based look at what it means to be a believer in today's troubled world. We examine the false belief systems that so often distract us from the freedom and purpose available only from a dependent, personal relationship with Jesus. Relying on the Holy Spirit to guide, empower and convict us, we seek to take God at His word and give Him control over our lives. We know there is no other way to live free and joyfully.

We meet weekly for fourteen consecutive weeks. Men and women fellowship separately with each study group facilitated by a leader willing to transparently share the victory they have been given in Christ and able to relate to the issues and challenges we all face.

While Set Free is a Bible study and not a self-help group, we welcome members who may be struggling with alcohol or drug abuse, anger issues, relationship problems or any number of other challenges that plague many who are true believers. We trust God's promise to heal and correct as we obey His Word. We are a safe place to speak and hear the truth. We encourage and support one another to believe that God empowers us to do those things He commands us to do.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity to grow in grace and "...be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." (Romans 12:2), call the church office at (509) 467-2860 and ask for an application. It will be passed in confidence to the appropriate facilitator who will contact you to answer any questions you may have.

Soul Patrol

The Soul Patrol Ministry is a Christian Motorcycle Club that has been established since 1991. Our purpose is to share the Gospel of Christ with a suffering world. We are men and women who share the common experience of lives shattered through substance abuse, rebellious living, periods of incarceration and other manifestations of a life lived apart from God. God chose to make Himself real to us, healing our broken hearts and lives by His grace and through His Son, Jesus Christ. Our goal is to share that Good News with individuals.

The Soul Patrol hosts a Wednesday Night Bible Study at Calvary Spokane which is open to all. This Study meets each Wednesday night at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Center for worship, Bible study, prayer and fellowship. After the worship time, women and men break up into separate Bible studies. Childcare is provided for infants through 6th grades.

In addition to the weekly study, Soul Patrol ministers in the following ways:

  • Motorcycle Runs and Rally’s
  • Prison Ministry at County, State and Juvenile facilities.

For more information on the Soul Patrol Ministry, visit our websiteor contact the church at (509) 467-2860 or by emailfor more information.

Ushers

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:8-10

Welcome to Calvary Spokane Ushers Ministry! Ushers Ministry is one of hospitality, with a variety of functions including greeting, ushering and security. It plays a vital role before, during and after Church Services and special events.

Ushers are called to represent Jesus Christ and to be an extension of His heart and hands for those in our congregation and for visitors. We are called to actively meet people and make them feel welcome.

Ushers are called to assist our pastor in accomplishing his mission of saving the lost, strengthening the weak and sending to serve as we worship God in prayer, giving, song and the teaching of God’s Word.

Ushers are called to facilitate during our church services and limit disturbances that can distract people from God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.

We believe God raises up and prepares people for this ministry. Don’t be discouraged because you feel unprepared, inexperienced or lack ability. He is looking for people with servant’s hearts. Also, before you enter this ministry, we will prepare and equip you through an interview and training process.
